Application & Agreement

Paralegal Association of Rochester, Inc.'s ("PAR") membership qualifications shall not exclude or discriminate because of race, color, religion, gender, national origin, age, physical handicaps, or sexual orientation. However, any person who is incarcerated at the time of application or who has been disbarred from the practice of law is not eligible for membership.

PAR collects non-public personal information from its members on its membership application, such as name, address, telephone number, email address, and employer. The PAR Website contains member information. By becoming a PAR member, you agree to have this information available to other PAR members. This information is required in order to provide members with PAR benefits and information. Except for these purposes, PAR does not disclose non-public personal information collected from its members to any third party without the prior consent of the members.

By submitting an application:

I attest that the information provided herein is true to the best of my knowledge;
I attest that I am not incarcerated at the time of application;
I attest that I have not been disbarred from the practice of law;
I agree not to abuse the personal information of PAR members by exposing them to spam, unprofessional emails, etc.;
I agree not to disclose any PAR member’s information to any outside parties; and
I hereby agree to abide by the New York Lawyer’s Code of Professional Responsibility, the NFPA Code of Ethics, the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy of this website, and any other code adopted by the Association.

Voting - $60.00 (USD) Subscription period: 1 year No automatically recurring payments Offered to any person who is currently employed as a paralegal, no less than 20 hours per week, who performs substantive legal work that requires knowledge of legal concepts and is customarily, but not exclusively, performed by a lawyer. Voting membership requires that a paralegal's work be supervised by an attorney. Voting members must have a combination of work experience and/or paralegal training and the approval of the Membership Committee. Must also have at least one year of working experience as a paralegal or six months of working experience as a paralegal and have successfully completed an approved formal paralegal training program. Said person may be retained or employed by a lawyer, law firm, government agency, court or other entity.

Student - $30.00 (USD) Subscription period: 1 year No automatically recurring payments Student membership is available to any person currently enrolled in an approved paralegal training program. Student membership may be extended for a period of twelve months following graduation (or completion of the program).

Non-Voting - $50.00 (USD) Subscription period: 1 year No automatically recurring payments Affiliate membership is available to any person who would otherwise qualify as a Voting Member, except that the person has insufficient length of work experience or is currently unemployed. This would also include anyone else who is not a paralegal.

Review & Approval Process

The information contained in this application is subject to review by the Membership Commitee of the Paralegal Association of Rochester, Inc., (PAR) and may be disseminated to PAR's Board of Directors.

Within a few days of your application submission, you will receive an email (at the email address you provide) stating we have received your application and it is being reviewed.

AFFILIATE ORGANIZATIONS

PAR is a member association of the Empire State Alliance of Paralegal Associations, Inc. ("ESAPA"). The statewide alliance arose from the need to strengthen the paralegal profession in NYS through networking.

Returned Checks
Checks returned to the Treasurer for non-sufficient funds, or any other reason, will be returned to the issuer for reimbursement of the face value of the check plus any fees incurred by PAR from its financial institution. A copy of the original check and a copy of the letter received from our bank will be sent to the issuer along with a cover letter signed by the Treasurer requesting reimbursement within 30 calendar days or membership will be revoked. The Membership Committee will be sent a copy of the letter.

It is the issuer's responsibility to inform PAR of any bank and/or account changes if their check is still showing to be outstanding.
